ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Bernard Julien, the stylish all-rounder from Trinidad and Tobago, played a key supporting role in the West Indies’ historic triumph at the 1975 ICC Cricket World Cup.

The versatility of the left-handed and left arm made him a valuable asset in Clive Lloyd’s well-balanced squad, and thus, one of the legends being honoured at this year’s Cricket West Indies and the West Indies Players’ Association awards gala being held on Sunday, June 22, at the Wyndham Grand Barbados.

Throughout the tournament, Julien contributed to both disciplines, but it was with the ball that he made his most telling impact. His ability to swing the ball and vary his pace made him a reliable option in the middle overs—particularly crucial in the early years of One Day Internationals, when teams were still learning how to pace their innings. In the final against Australia at Lord’s, Julien played a key role by removing opener Alan Turner and later returning to help mop up the tail, finishing with tidy figures of 2 for 38 in 12 overs.
